Setup guide

Use DeepSerp inside Claude and ChatGPT

Ask your AI assistant for keyword ideas, a competitor's top pages or a keyword gap, and it fetches the data from DeepSerp for you. Setup takes about two minutes.

Quick start

Every AI app connects to the same address. Copy it:

DeepSerp server address
https://deepserp.co/mcp
1
Add DeepSerpPaste the address into your AI app (steps for each app are below).
2
Sign inA DeepSerp page opens. Log in and click Allow access.
3
Ask somethingType: “List my DeepSerp projects.”

Or let your AI set itself up

Using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Cowork? Copy this prompt, paste it into a chat, and the AI does the setup (or tells you exactly what to click). Approve the DeepSerp sign-in when your browser asks.

Setup prompt
Set up DeepSerp in this AI app. Do what you can, and walk me through anything I have to do myself.

1. Work out which app this is (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Claude on the web or desktop, Claude Cowork,
   ChatGPT, or another). Check whether DeepSerp is already connected, and don't add it twice.
2. DeepSerp's MCP server is https://deepserp.co/mcp (a remote server over HTTPS; sign-in with OAuth).
3. If this app can add MCP servers itself (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), add it with that address and let
   me sign in to DeepSerp in my browser. If it can't (Claude on the web or desktop, Cowork, ChatGPT),
   don't run commands: give me the exact clicks for this app to add a custom connector with that address.
4. If this app can't sign in with OAuth, tell me to create an API key at https://deepserp.co/connect and to put it in
   the app's settings as the header "Authorization: Bearer <my key>". Never ask me to paste the key in chat.
5. When DeepSerp's tools have loaded, check the connection with list_projects and get_balance (both free).
   Don't run anything paid during setup.
6. Finish with a short message: what worked, what I still need to do (if anything), and one thing to try,
   such as "Find keyword ideas for <my topic>".

Before you start

You need:

  1. A DeepSerp account with at least one project (create one if you haven't). The AI uses your newest project's country and language, unless you name another project.
  2. Some balance in your wallet. Tools are charged at the same prices as in DeepSerp. Your AI can check your balance for free.

How spending works:

  • Small requests (most under $0.25) run straight away, and the answer says what they cost.
  • Anything costing $1 or more, and any request for a report's full data, makes the AI ask you first. Nothing runs until you say yes.
  • Looking at reports you already have, your balance and your projects is free.

Claude (web and desktop app)

Works on every Claude plan. The Free plan allows one custom connector.

  1. In Claude, open Settings (in newer versions, Customize) and go to Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Name it DeepSerp and paste the server address (above). Leave Advanced settings empty.
  4. Click Add, then Connect. A DeepSerp page opens: log in and click Allow access.
  5. Start a new chat. In the + (tools) menu, make sure DeepSerp is switched on, then ask: "List my DeepSerp projects."

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector for the organization first; then each person clicks Connect to sign in with their own DeepSerp account.

Claude Cowork

Cowork uses the same connectors as Claude, so you add DeepSerp once.

  1. Add DeepSerp as in Claude (web and desktop app) above, if you haven't yet.
  2. Start a Cowork task, open the connectors (+) menu and switch DeepSerp on.
  3. Ask: "List my DeepSerp projects."

ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds custom connectors through Developer mode. Which plans have it, and where its switch is, has changed during 2026. If a step doesn't match your screen, look for the nearest option with the same name.

  1. Open Settings → Apps & Connectors (or Apps). Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode. (Some accounts have it under Settings → Security.)
  2. Back in Apps & Connectors, click Create (or Add custom connector).
  3. Name it DeepSerp, paste the server address (above) as the MCP server URL, and choose OAuth for authentication. Leave the client ID and secret empty.
  4. Tick that you trust the app, click Create, then log in to DeepSerp and click Allow access.
  5. In a new chat, open + → More → Developer mode, pick DeepSerp, and ask: "List my DeepSerp projects."

On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin may need to allow custom connectors first.

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal. It adds DeepSerp for every folder you use Claude Code in:

claude mcp add --transport http deepserp https://deepserp.co/mcp --scope user

Then start Claude Code (claude), type /mcp, choose deepserp → Authenticate, and click Allow access on the DeepSerp page that opens. Ask: "List my DeepSerp projects."

Prefer an API key? Make one on your DeepSerp connect page and add DeepSerp with it instead (put your key in place of dsk_YOUR_KEY):

claude mcp add --transport http deepserp https://deepserp.co/mcp --scope user --header "Authorization: Bearer dsk_YOUR_KEY"

Added DeepSerp while Claude Code was open? Run /mcp and choose Reconnect, or start a new session, to load its tools.

Codex

The easiest way: paste the setup prompt into Codex and let it add DeepSerp. To do it yourself, add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:

[mcp_servers.deepserp]
url = "https://deepserp.co/mcp"

Restart Codex. When it asks you to sign in to DeepSerp, approve it in your browser, then ask: "List my DeepSerp projects."

Cursor

Open Cursor Settings → MCP and click Add new MCP server, or add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (create the file if it doesn't exist):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "deepserp": {
      "url": "https://deepserp.co/mcp"
    }
  }
}

The first time Cursor uses DeepSerp it opens the DeepSerp sign-in page: click Allow access. Then ask in chat: "List my DeepSerp projects."

If sign-in doesn't open, use an API key from your connect page instead:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "deepserp": {
      "url": "https://deepserp.co/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer dsk_YOUR_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

Other apps

Any AI app that supports remote MCP servers over HTTPS can use DeepSerp (VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, and more). In its MCP settings:

  • Server address: https://deepserp.co/mcp
  • Sign-in: OAuth, if the app offers it (you approve DeepSerp in your browser).
  • No OAuth? Create an API key on your connect page and add the header Authorization: Bearer dsk_YOUR_KEY.

Not sure how? Paste the setup prompt into the app's chat and let it guide you.

Check it works

Ask your AI these two questions. Both are free:

  1. "List my DeepSerp projects."
  2. "What's my DeepSerp balance?"

If it answers with your projects and balance, you're connected. Then try:

  • "Find keyword ideas for your topic."
  • "What are competitor.com's top keywords?"
  • "Which keywords do my competitors rank for that I don't?"
  • "Audit my website and tell me the biggest problems."

Every answer includes a link to open the full report in DeepSerp.

Troubleshooting

"Couldn't connect" or "Connection failed" Check the address is exactly https://deepserp.co/mcp, with no space at the end.

The sign-in page keeps asking me to log in Log in to DeepSerp in the same browser first (deepserp.co), then click Connect in your AI app again.

"The app connecting to DeepSerp isn't recognised" Remove the DeepSerp connector from your AI app and add it again.

DeepSerp's tools don't show up Start a new chat, and make sure DeepSerp is switched on for it (in the + or tools menu). In Claude Code, run /mcp and choose Reconnect.

"You have no DeepSerp project yet" Create a project (your website and country). The tools use its market.

The AI asks me to approve a cost That's on purpose: anything costing $1 or more, or a report's full data, waits for your OK. Say yes (or no) in the chat.

"Not enough balance" Top up on Payments & usage, then ask again.

"Too many DeepSerp calls" Each account can make 60 requests a minute and run 5 at once. Wait a minute and ask again.

My API key stopped working A key is shown only once, and you can revoke it. Make a new one on your connect page and check the header is exactly Authorization: Bearer dsk_....

FAQ

What is MCP? MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for AI apps to use other tools. Connecting DeepSerp gives your AI a set of DeepSerp tools it can call while you chat.

Does it cost extra? No. There's no subscription and no extra fee: each tool costs what it costs in DeepSerp, taken from your wallet. Your AI app's own plan is separate.

Can the AI spend my money without asking? Only small amounts. Requests under $1 run and say what they cost; anything bigger, and any full data, waits for your yes. You can also tell your AI a limit, like "don't spend more than $0.50".

Can DeepSerp see my chats? No. DeepSerp only receives what your AI sends to its tools, such as the keywords or website to look up.

Which project and country does it use? Your newest project's, unless you say otherwise: "Use my Apollo project."

How do I disconnect? Remove the connector in your AI app. You can also cut off any app, and revoke API keys, on your connect page.

Where do I see what the AI ran? Every result links to the full report, and every charge is listed on Payments & usage.
